GRANITE CITY, Ill. (KMOV.com) – A disturbing crime trend of thieves stealing cars off dealership lots has hit the St. Louis region. Six men were caught at a Granite City Ford dealership after surveillance footage caught them trying to drive away with a stolen vehicle.
The men appeared to be very organized, according to Alex Rosenberger of Matercars, who has seen surveillance footage of the men breaking into vehicles on his lot at least four different times. Of those four times, the men stole three cars off the lot over several weeks. Rosenberger said it was believed that the men were armed and ready to cause bodily harm if anybody tried to stop them. The damage cost him thousands.
The crime trend has been seen across the Metro East for more than six months.
The six men arrested in connection to this case range in age from 19 to 23.
A special task force is working to find if these men are responsible for several similar cases.
