Wives of police officers collecting donations ahead of grand jury announcement

Posted: Updated:

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- As law enforcement and the City of St. Louis prepare for the upcoming grand jury decision, the Police Wives Association is also preparing for what lies ahead.  They are collecting donations for the officers.

Due to threats on officers and their families, two wives of those officers agreed to do an interview with News 4 as long as their identity remained concealed.

”They’re stuck standing there, holding the line, protecting their brothers, protecting our community and they deserve our support and respect,” Ann said.

Ann – and her friend Hope - are both members of the St Louis Police Officers Association. It’s a group meant as a support system for both the families and the officers.

Through mostly anonymous donations, the association has raised more than $5,000 online and in person, people have dropped off donations, snack food, energy drinks and anything the officers might need.

“Its grab-and-go food because one thing that the general public really doesn’t understand is that when these officers are on 12 hour shifts, they don’t get to say ‘excuse me I’m hungry, I need to go sit down and have a meal right now,’” Hope said.

There are donations sites across the area, including Ferguson Fire Department, Third Baptist Church in downtown St. Louis, and the Maplewood fire house. You can also donate online
