ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – A man wearing a black mask used a sledgehammer to break into a South City credit union early Tuesday morning.  

Police say a suspect started hitting the brick wall of the St. Louis Community Credit Union, in the 4400 block of Chippewa, with a sledgehammer around 2:45 a.m. The suspect beat at the wall for 30 minutes before he was able to create an opening, according to police.

Authorities say the suspect walked around the credit union for about a minute but didn’t take anything.

The suspect walked away from the credit union following the incident.

The suspect is described as a 180 pound, 5-foot-8 black male. Police say he was wearing a blue striped long sleeve shirt and a black mask at the time of the incident.  

No other details were available.
