EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (KMOV.com) -- The Major Case Squad was activated Monday afternoon after a body was found in a burned car in East St. Louis.
Police said a burning vehicle was found on railroad tracks near the intersection of 18th Street and Broadway around 3:00. After putting the fire out, fire crews found a body in the trunk of the car. Police said an autopsy revealed the suspect died of a gunshot wound.
Police are using dental records to identify the man, who was only described as a an African-American man in his middle ages. He has a single gold front tooth.
The Major Case Squad was activated Monday to investigate the homicide.
