TROY, MO--A 23-year-old man is now in police custody after authorities say he attacked his girlfriend her on her drive home after hiding in her van.

Edwin Sinnott, of Wentzville, is charged with misdemeanor and felony domestic assault and felonious restraint.

According to Troy police, Sinnott's ex-girlfriend got off from her job at a Moscow Mills commercial bakery around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday and agreed to take a female friends home after her shift.

When they arrived at the friend's home, Sinnott jumped from the back seat and began choking his ex-girlfriend, according to police. Sinnott allegedly hit his ex-girlfriend in the face while she attempted to flee.

Eventually, the woman was able to escape into her friends home. Police say Sinnott then tried to break down the front door.
