MONTGOMERY COUNTY, ill. (KMOV.com) -- Two teenagers were killed and another injured in an accident on Illinois Route 48 in Montgomery County Wednesday afternoon.
Police said a vehicle with three teenagers in it was headed northbound on Route 48 near Raymond, Illinois when it went off the right side of the road. The vehicle then over-corrected and crossed into the southbound lanes, directly in front of another vehicle.
The vehicle heading southbound struck the car on the passenger side. One passenger was pronounced dead at the scene and another was rushed to an area hospital, where they were later pronounced dead. The driver of the vehicle was airlifted to a St. Louis hospital with serious injuries. All three victims were teenagers.
The driver of the southbound vehicle was rushed to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
The accident remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police and no identities have been released.
