(KMOV) – An 18-year-old male and two other suspects were charged Friday in connection to two-dozen car burglaries and a stolen vehicle report in Columbia, Illinois, police say.
Police have only released the age of one of the suspects.
Just after 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday, a police officer spotted someone looking into vehicles parked in the South Riebeling/Centreville Road area.
When the officer got out of his patrol car to investigate, the person ran from the scene.
That’s when police discovered that several vehicles had been broken into.
Columbia police have received 30 vehicle burglary reports. They have also received a report of a stolen 2002 white Dodge pickup truck. That truck was found in East St. Louis Wednesday afternoon; it had been set on fire.
Authorities say that most of the cars that were burglarized had unlocked doors and electronics in plain view. Some of the vehicles did have their windows broken.
