(KMOV) – Domestic violence is a serious issue. While many in the St. Louis area seek help when they face trouble, not everyone gets the assistance they need when they need it.
For every two women in Missouri who got shelter when they sought it, three women were turned away. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Statistical Analysis Center, there were 45 domestic violence related homicides in 2009.
The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence predicts that one in every four women will experience domestic violence in their lifetime. To combat this statistic, President Barack Obama recently announced an effort to include more legal protection, financial assistance and housing for victims of domestic violence.
