ST. LOUIS (AP) -- A St. Louis judge has certified a 16-year-old boy to stand trial as an adult in the shooting death of a high school football player.

The teenager is accused of gunning down 17-year-old Rahmel McNeil on Sept. 24 as the Sumner High School athlete was walking away from a fight with several other youths.

Prosecution as an adult means the suspect could face life in prison without parole. He's too young for prosecutors to seek the death penalty.

The judge certified the suspect as an adult on Monday.
