I stopped by the Donut Palace in Ellisville Friday morning. A nurse with the Visiting Nurses Association was administering flu shots to people. Those who got the shot also got a free donut. I wanted to find out in the first month or so of the 2010 - 2011 flu season what "business" has been like for the nurses.
According to RN Angela Potter, it's down a bit this year compared to last. She had a couple of possible reasons why. She said perhaps there are more places offering the flu shot so those getting it aren't necessarily getting it from them. It could also be with less hype about H1N1 (which is still out there) people are just blowing off the shot this year.
She and other health experts say that's a mistake. If you don't want to miss work or school or anything else important to you, get a flu shot. In fact this year the Centers for Disease Control is recommending anymore 6 months old or older should get one.
