CHICAGO (AP) -- The brother of Illinois state senator Tony Munoz is being treated for serious injuries suffered when a hit-and-run driver slammed into him outside a polling place on Chicago's South Side.
A spokeswoman for Mount Sinai Hospital says Martin Munoz is undergoing surgery.
Authorities say Munoz was hit as he entered the polling place. Chicago Board of Elections spokesman Jim Allen says the man flew into the air and landed on the car before the driver sped off.
An elections investigator chased the driver and took down his license plate number as the vehicle sped through red lights. Allen says two men are in police custody.
Tony Munoz is a Chicago Democrat. Mount Sinai's spokeswoman says he spent the morning with his brother at the hospital and went home to get some rest.
