LOUISIANA, Mo. (AP) -- The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating a high-speed pursuit that ended with a fatality late Saturday in eastern Missouri.
The Hannibal Courier-Post reports that Louisiana, Mo., police responded to a call about a careless driver. When police tried to stop the vehicle, the driver fled.
Two Louisiana officers and a Pike County Sheriff's deputy began chasing the vehicle. When officers tried to arrest the suspect, the driver struck two squad cars and then struck one of the officers and the deputy.
Authorities fired on the vehicle, but the driver managed to flee before stopping his vehicle in nearby woods. The patrol did not say if the driver was shot or how he died. An autopsy was planned for Monday.
The victim's name has not been released.
