Thieves target copper from air conditioners at St. Louis community center

(KMOV) – St. Louis police are searching for thieves responsible for stealing copper from a community center.

This has happened three times in the past week at the World Impact Center, a faith based community on north Grand, in which thieves have torn apart nine air conditioning units for the copper inside.

The thieves struck on Monday night and Tuesday night and came back on Thursday morning. Employees were close to catching them, but they eventually got away. The thieves had to climb onto the roof to get to the air conditioners.

The thefts have left the center with no air conditioning, which is a major problem for the center to fix.

Now the center is just hoping for donations to repair the air conditioners before the summer heat returns.
