Illinois families urged to use sex offender registry this Halloween

(KMOV)--Illinois families are being advised to check the Illinois Sex Offender Registry website before sending their children out trick-or-treating.

Attorney General Lisa Madigan urged Illinois families to take the time to go online to learn where sex offenders live in their neighborhoods. Madigan wants families to use the Illinois Sex Offender Registry to plan safe trick-or-treat routes for their children.
A total of 24,638 sex offenders are listed on the Illinois Sex Offender Registry, of which 20,005, or 81 percent, committed a crime against a child.
Parents and families can go online to visit the Illinois Sex Offender Registry Web site at www.isp.state.il.us or call the Illinois Sex Offender Registry Team’s (ISORT) Hotline at 1-888-41-ISORT (1-888-414-7678).
