BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP/KMOV) -- The Illinois High School Association has ordered the East St. Louis High School football team to forfeit five of its nine victories during 2010 season and all wins from last year because of an ineligible player.
Because of the forfeitures, the team is not eligible for the 2010 IHSA Football Playoffs, scheduled to begin on Friday.
The IHSA announced Tuesday it determined standout defensive player Charles Tigue, the head coach's 17-year-old nephew, was not eligible to play for the team. A second player on the team was also found ineligible.
The investigation was prompted by a Belleville News-Democrat report that Tigue, who is facing two first-degree armed robbery charges, lives with his parents in Belleville High School District 201, and not East St. Louis School District 189.
The district plans to meet Wednesday to decide on if they should appeal the decision to strip the team of 5 victories this year.
