(KMOV) -- The search is over for the body of a 25-year-old man who went missing after a wave knocked two men off a boat on the Mississippi River Monday afternoon.
This happened about three miles north of the Alton Bridge before 5:30 p.m. near mile marker 207.
The water patrol found the body of Kristopher Van Meter, of De Soto, Missouri in about 13 feet of water using sonar equipment.
When reports came out of the men in water, crews arrived on the scene and found one person swam to shore. He told firefighters that Van Meter was in the boat with him, and that they were preparing to duck hunt.
He said they were in a 14-foot fishing boat loaded up with tree branches to serve as camouflage when they ran into trouble.
Witness Amber Brugnone caught some of the first panicked moments on her home video camera as the lone survivor met up with rescuers along the river.
The survivor would not go to the hospital. Instead, he went back out onto the water with searchers to show where his friend went under.
Van Meter was not wearing a personal flotation device.
