(KMOV) – Students and parents in the Francis Howell School District can start planning for a big change next year. The school is scrapping its year-round program.
Board members and parents were torn about the decision, but eventually the board voted to have elementary children go to an August to May school calendar. They had been on a year-round program for 40 years.
Supporters say the district will be saving about a million dollars, mainly in transportation costs.
Those opposing the change say it’s putting money in front of education. They also believe the year-round calendar benefits students and is a reason for good tests scores.
