(KMOV) -- St. Louis County Police confirm that officers took a juvenile suspect into custody, following an assault on a teenage girl.
The girl was found, in a ditch along New Halls Ferry Road, across the street from Hazelwood Central High School around 8:30 p.m., Saturday.
The victim's mother, Cusandra Jones, says the suspect attended school with her daughter and may have been bullying the girl and her boyfriend.
Jones says her daughter left home around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday to meet her boyfriend at the school, which is less than a mile away. She was due home before dark. By 7 p.m., Jones became concerned. She set out to look for her daughter, contacted police, and called her daughter's cell phone. A man answered and told Jones he found the phone in a subdivision, near the school.
Around 8:30 p.m., a police officer spotted a shoe on New Halls Ferry. The officer pulled over and found the victim, in a ditch.
The victim suffered a broken arm, broken nose, and a deep cut to her face.
An ambulance took the girl to the hospital. Her mother says the girl underwent surgery for her arm and will undergo plastic surgery to repair damage to her face. The victim was released from the hospital on Wednesday.
Jones says her daughter has not been able to recall many details of the attack.
"I'm still trying to figure it out. How could somebody be so cruel to a young lady who was so beautiful, young, sweet and kind. I have no idea," said Jones.
St. Louis County Police arrested the suspect at 1 a.m., Thursday. Since the suspect is a juvenile, police have not released his name.
