Angie’s List consulted with highly-rated florists on Angie’s List for tips on cutting wedding flower costs:
Have a budget: Before you have your first consultation with a florist, know how much you want to spend.
What’s the date? Avoid holding your wedding day around Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day – especially if you want roses. Prices can increase when demand is high.
Choose flowers that are in season: Ask the florist what flowers are in season with your wedding date. Can the florist work with fresh and silk flowers to help cut costs? Use more greenery instead of blooms.
Keep the guest list small: Reducing the number of attendants in your wedding party and guests at your wedding will mean fewer bouquets and centerpieces.
Share with others: Reuse some of the flowers from the ceremony for the reception. Also, if there’s another wedding scheduled on the same day as yours can you split the costs with the bride?
Think about it: Don’t feel pressured to book with a florist on the spot. Take the time to meet others florist and do some comparison shopping.
Hiring a florist:
When to book: Visit a florist anywhere from 1 year to six months. Remember florists tend to book quickly for the months of May, June, September and October. Ask if they’ll be working on any other weddings on your day.
Be prepared for the consultation: Not only will the florist what to discuss ideas, but they’ll need some information so they can provide an accurate estimate. You should have the reception and ceremony sites picked out because your florist will want to know how many arrangements you’ll need.
· Wedding date
· Estimated guest count
· Ceremony and reception location (what do these sites allow in terms of flowers?)
· Wedding party counts
· Color scheme (dresses, linens, etc.) Bring in swatches if available.
· Look at past work: Visit the florist’s store/website and look at photos of their past work. Do you like their style? Do the flowers look fresh?
· What’s included in the contract? Everything the florist is supplying should be included including delivery charges, setup fees, rental supplies, etc.
