Grant to aid St. Louis-area needy

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- The St. Louis area will get nearly $3.6 million in grant money to help provide food and shelter for the needy.

U.S. Rep. Russ Carnahan announced the grant Monday. The funding comes from the Emergency Food and Shelter Program.

The money is aimed at helping individuals and families with non-disaster, temporary emergency needs including meals and shelter.

The grant includes funding to St. Louis city and St. Louis, St. Charles, Jefferson, Franklin, Lincoln, St. Francois, Warren and Washington counties.

Carnahan, a St. Louis Democrat, says additional areas of Missouri may be selected for grant money at a later date.
