As this evening snow storm turns into a snow covered ice box on Thursday, IDOT officials tell me it could be a problem. Chemicals and road salt they say don't work once it gets under 16 degrees and so all they'll be doing will be plowing, but they'll be battling the wind.
We saw a few drivers also gliding through changing lights rather than try to stop quickly, so watch out for that at busy intersections.
By the time 11 pm rolled around, our drive back to St Louis from O'Fallon took almost twice as long as it tooks us to get out there. I-64 did have two open lanes, but they were more like two sets of tracks that led drivers. We also noticed some ice building up on the road, and it makes you wonder what this will all be like by morning.
