Former St. Louis police officer charged with statutory rape

(KMOV) -- A St. Louis police officer is off the streets and has been charged with statutory rape.
 
Christian Mitchell, 45, was an 11-year veteran.
 
He resigned on Monday.
 
Mitchell was arrested by St. Louis County police at his home in Florissant.
 
He has been charged with second-degree statutory rape and sexual assault. Mitchell is in custody on a $30,000 bond.
 
The city police department issued a statement saying an investigation is underway.
