Metro-East law involving social networking sites targets sex offenders

As hip as social networking is among young people, the business networking crowd and scores of other people today, individuals convicted of a sex crime in Illinois need to take notice.

As of Jan. 1, 2010, it will be a felony for any registered sex offender in the state to use Internet social networking sites, period.

Offenders are banned from using such sites whether on supervised release or parole, under court supervision or a conditional discharge or on probation.
