ALTON - Eighteen businesses in Alton that sell packaged liquor apparently heeded the police chief's recent warnings about not selling alcohol to minors, with no violations during Tuesday's compliance checks.
"I was very pleasantly surprised that we got 100 percent compliance," Alton Police Chief David Hayes said. "This is the first time that we have had 100 percent compliance. I believe that is because we met with the merchants at the training seminar and explained the problem, and showed them how to identify false IDs and asked them to be more diligent in their efforts."
