JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Missouri's attorney general says the state recovered more money from Medicaid fraud in 2009 than in any previous year.
Attorney General Chris Koster's office reported Wednesday that its Medicaid fraud unit recovered $82 million this year. That's more than double the previous high of $34 million set in 2008.
The fraud unit also secured three criminal convictions and helped federal prosecutors get five more.
Koster says the millions of dollars recovered from fraud demonstrates the need to defend against money stolen from the health care system. Consumers can report suspected Medicaid fraud by calling the office's hot line at 800-286-3932.
