ST. CLAIR COUNTY (KMOV.com) – An employee in the Circuit Clerk’s Office in St. Clair County has been charged with tampering with public records.
Rowena Butenhoff, 33, is accused of deleting the records of a bench warrant for the arrest of someone who had three outstanding misdemeanor offenses.
“When the events came to my attention that had allegedly taken place, I immediately contacted Brendan Kelly, that state’s attorney,” said St. Clair County Circuit Clerk Kahalah Clay. “We immediately contacted Sheriff Watson’s office.”
After being contacted, investigators began a week long investigation of Butenhoff’s actions. It was discovered that Butenhoff had allegedly tampered with the records of Robert Loeffler, 29, who has been accused of impeding a domestic disturbance call.
Butenhoff was arrested, but has since been released on bond. She is currently on administrative leave.
