(KMOV.com) – A Columbia, Illinois man is facing charges after he allegedly kidnapped a child.
Robert Fricke, 41, has been charged with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery, and unlawful restraint.
Police said they responded to a call at Fricke’s home September 6 about a possible abduction. Authorities said they then arrested Fricke. Police believe Fricke kidnapped a child younger than 13 from a neighbor's home, detained the victim in his basement, and also physically hurt the victim.
"He went over to play with the little kids and suddenly picked up the boy up and ran with him and ran in the house with him and locked the door," said neighbor Glenda Vieregge.
Neighbors told News 4 they did not expect such an act from Fricke.
"Just shocked, I mean he's a nice guy. He's helpful around the neighborhood. When I saw him the evening before all this happened he was cutting the neighbor's lawn," Vieregge said.
Fricke is being held at the Monroe County Jail on bond of $250,000. In 2009, Fricke was accused of choking a 9-year-old boy in a public restroom.
