ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – A man died of his injuries Friday after he was punched in the face on August 8 in north St. Louis.

Dennis Whitby, 54, of the 2100 block of E. College, was pronounced dead on Friday almost a month after he was found lying in the 4300 block of Warne.

On August 8 officers responded to a call for a “person down” at 6:55 p.m. When officers arrived at the scene they found Whitby lying in the street unconscious.

An investigation revealed Whitby was talking to a suspect when he was hit in the face with a closed fist, according to police. Police say Whitby fell to the ground and hit his head on the pavement after being hit.

Authorities say the suspect fled the scene in a maroon vehicle.

Police say they do not know if Whitby knew the suspect.
