ST. LOUIS ( – September is Hunger Action Month and orange is the color of hunger awareness, which is why the St. Louis Area Foodbank has declared Thursday “Go Orange STL Day.”

Go Orange STL is part of the St. Louis Area Foodbank’s goal to reach and educate as many people as possible about the issue of hunger in the bi-state region.

“Our goal is to flood the St. Louis community with orange; showing support for our neighbors facing tough choices between paying for food and other basic necessities every day,” said Michelle Knight, Advocacy and Communication Coordinator for the St. Louis Area Foodbank.

The Foodbank says one in eight people in the bi-state region are in need of assistance. The bank says their biggest challenge is the demand.

The summer months are some of the biggest times of need and the bank does not want to cut food when it comes to cutting costs.

The foodbank is asking people to tag any photos relating to Go Orange STL using #GoOrangeSTL and to include @STLfoodbank.
