EAST ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – The East St. Louis Assistant Police Chief has been suspended after allegations of misconduct.

Assistant Chief Ronald Ike was suspended Friday and City Manager Deletra Hudson confirmed that Chief Ike was suspended based on inappropriate conduct. Chief Ike worked for the East St. Louis Police Department for 18 years and was promoted to the Assistant Chief position in January of 2012. Authorities are not revealing anything about his record because that is part of the investigation.

Hudson said she has ten days to conduct the investigation and reach a conclusion about the allegations.

“A thorough investigation will be conducted. I will not condone anything being swept under the rug. We will ensure that the proper agencies are included if that is necessary,” said Hudson.

It is likely that the city will call in an outside agency, possibly the Illinois State Police, to lead the investigation to avoid a conflict of interest.

The Illinois State Police have not confirmed their involvement, but the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department said they are not involved.
