Ferguson police receive training on body cameras

Posted: Updated:

(KMOV.com) – Ferguson police are being trained to use and wear body cameras.

The cameras are battery operated and battery power is supposed to last four around 12 hours.  The cameras clip to the top of the officers uniform shirt, and can record both audio and video.

A private company donated three body cameras after Michael Brown, Jr. was killed. Those three cameras have been in operation for five days. Ferguson police recently bought two cameras, and another private company is donating 50 more cameras. In total, the department will have 55 body cameras, enough for each officer in Ferguson.

Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson said body cameras would have made a difference in the investigation of Brown’s shooting.

Police said 15 officers are ready to wear the cameras. Jackson said he hopes to have all officers wearing the cameras by September 1.
