ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – Two residents suffered minor injuries during a 3-alarm fire that happened at the Heritage House Apartments around 3:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
Fire officials say when they arrived at the fire in the 2800 block of Olive, the smoke was heavy, but they crews were able to quickly get the fire under control.
Originally, the fire was declared a 2-alarm fire, however, Gregg Favre of the St. Louis Fire Department said it was upgraded to a 3-alarm fire after they called for additional help.
“Moving personnel up to the fire floor, the 19th floor, and moving residents down out of danger, in addition to the heat, we needed more man power,” Favre said.
The upper floors of the building sustained moderate damage, but most of the residents were able to return to their homes.
Authorities say they believe the fire to be caused accidentally, but the investigation is ongoing.
