EAST ALTON, Ill. (KMOV) -- A 41-year-old man died Saturday morning following an accident at an East Alton industrial plant, officials said.
The Madison County coroner's office said Michael B. Niswander, of Cottage Hills, Ill., was struck in the chest around 10:30 a.m. by a piece of machinery at Olin Brass Corp. in the 400 block of North Shamrock Street.
Niswander was taken to Alton Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about an hour later, chief investigator Roger D. Smith said.
Smith said an autopsy was planned, and routine toxicology tests would be performed.
It was unclear what led to the accident. Smith said the Occupational Safety and Health Administration had been notified of Niswander's death.
Olin Brass Corp., a subsidiary of Global Brass and Copper, manufactures high performance copper alloys, according to the company's Web site.
