Authorities said the boy was riding his bicycle in the 200 block of South 11th Street in Belleville when he was struck around 7:40 p.m. Friday.

The female driver, identified by police as Kiyara R. Meaders-Patterson, initially stopped after hitting the child but drove off after encountering the neighbor, police said.

Another driver saw Meaders-Patterson cross Main Street with the boy's bicycle lodged under her car. Witnesses told police the bicycle broke free from the car in an alley.

Police said Meaders-Patterson, 20, was taken into custody in the 6000 block of West Main Street. She was charged Saturday with felony leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.

The boy was taken to Belleville Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for scrapes and bruises, police said.

Meaders-Patterson, a homeless woman whose last known address was in Shiloh, Ill., was being held at the Belleville Police Department in lieu of $50,000 bond.
