Council gives OK for use of Liberty Street

The city of Edwardsville and TransCanada Keystone, LP, were finally able to agree on a contract to allow the company to use Liberty Street while constructing its oil pipeline through the north end of the city.

The Edwardsville City Council voted 6-0 to allow the mayor to sign a haul agreement with the company on Tuesday.

After the company had asked the city to use Liberty Street to transport products, equipment, materials or supplies while it was constructing a portion of its pipeline from Canada to Wood River, the city learned from an engineering report that the street may not be able to handle the heavy loads.
