FTC to look into bloggers who are paid for opinions

(AP) -- If you check out a blog to get a consumer review of a product, how do you know whether the person writing was accepting money or gifts for what they wrote? Come this summer, if federal regulators get their way, you may be able to find out. The Federal Trade Commission has drawn up new guidelines that will force bloggers to disclose what perks they may be getting for the reviews they put out. The new rules would make it clear that the FTC can go after bloggers as well as the companies that compensate them for any false claims or failure to disclose conflicts of interest. It would be the first time that the FTC would be trying to systematically keep tabs on what bloggers say and do online.
