Granite City, IL (KMOV) -- Hundreds of Steel workers head back on the job this week. Many arrived at the mill to work for the first time in six months.
The parking lot outside of on 20th Street hasn't seen this much activity since the mill shut down around the first of the year.
Monday morning the first of 590 employees began returning to their jobs. One worker even brought a cake to celebrate
Vincent English spent the past six months cleaning up around his home and wondering how we was going to pay the bills.
Workers tell News 4 they are happy to be returning to work, but they worry about how long this callback will last.
Many of these workers got the call last week to return here. There are more than a thousand steel workers waiting and hoping they'll get a similar call soon.
officials say workers are being rehired based on seniority and the needs of each department.
