City begins battle with mosquitoes

As the first set of mosquito samples tested positive for the West Nile Virus in Illinois, the city of Edwardsville was gearing up its annual Mosquito Abatement Program.

Last week, the city's Public Works Department announced it will begin its fogging operations on Tuesday, June 9. Field Operations Superintendent Julie Martin said the city will complete the fogging on three evenings per week on a biweekly cycle: Wards 1, 4 and 5 on Tuesday, Wards 6 and 7 on Wednesday and Wards 2 and 3 on Thursdays.

Martin said the fogging will take place from 8 p.m. to midnight during this select schedule, weather permitting.
