Undeveloped acreage in need of improvements

Maryville trustees like the recommendation of the Park Committee to name a 4-acre park after the late Rev. Dr. Fred Winters.

Trustee Todd Bell said Winters was a great guy and he loved the parks in Maryville.

"He always brought a lot of kids out for work days (in the park)," Bell said.

The acreage is adjacent to the bike trail and north of the YMCA, accessible from Duke Drive. Mayor Larry Gulledge said it is a beautiful piece of property lined with trees.

"I'd like to add my recommendation," he said. "For 22 years Fred did a lot for this community. When we name something for someone we would like it to be for someone who did something for the community and Fred certainly did."
