Albert Cassens Elementary School was on lockdown for an hour-and-a-half on Wednesday morning during a stand-off between a suicidal armed man and police in a nearby subdivision.
At approximately 10 a.m., the Troy Police Department said they responded to an incident involving a male subject standing in his front yard with a handgun to his head.
The home, located in the 500 block of Patton and inside the Homes of Liberty Place subdivision in Troy, is approximately one mile from the school in Glen Carbon.
District 7 Superintendent Ed Hightower said the district was contacted about the incident by the Glen Carbon Police Department at about 10:30 a.m. and then the school was immediately placed on precautionary lockdown.
Hightower said the school remained on lockdown until the incident was resolved by police at about noon.
