Ill. House Republicans want Burris to resign

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Illinois House Republicans want embattled U.S. Sen. Roland Burris to resign.

They have introduced a resolution calling for him to quit the job he was given by ousted former Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

House Republicans tried to get immediate action on the resolution Wednesday, but the Democratic majority wouldn't agree to put it on a fast-track.

The resolution follows revelations of a conversation Burris had with the then-governor's brother about being appointed to the U.S. Senate. Blagojevich's brother ran his campaign fund.

In a federal wiretap, Burris promised to "personally do something" for the governor.

But the senator denies he did anything inappropriate and his lawyer says he never wrote any checks to Blagojevich after the conversation.
