EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) -- A 24-year-old man's four years of probation in a drunken wreck that killed two women will include giving lectures about the perils of driving while intoxicated.
Benjamin Nichols of Granite City apologized Wednesday to the victims' families before being sentenced in Madison County court.
Nichols pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated driving under the influence resulting in a death.
Authorities say the car Nichols was driving on Nov. 30 entered the path of an oncoming vehicle. The collision killed two occupants of his car -- his girlfriend, Tara Wilson, and her friend, Courtney Sherfy. The 20-year-old women were from Granite City.
Nichols was ordered to do 200 hours of community service.
