Even entrepreneurs appear to be feeling the effects of the recession.
A group that helps those entrepreneurs - inventors, e-commerce businesses and an array of small businesses - get off the ground is seeking $5,000 from the Madison County to prop up its operations fund and increase its chances of landing more state grants.
Kristine Jarden, who directs the Entrepreneur Center at SIUE, said that in a couple of weeks she will be mailing off a proposal for additional funding to the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.
Having support from the county and other partners will demonstrate that the community "is behind expanding entrepreneurship in the region," and should make the proposal stronger, Jarden said.
