GODFREY - Students were evacuated Wednesday morning after authorities found a bomb threat written atop a desk in a first-floor classroom at Alton High School.
Capt. Brad Wells with the Madison County Sheriff's Department said authorities started an investigation as soon as the school's resource officer was notified about the threat at 8:15 a.m., which is just after the start of first period. He said students were then evacuated according to the school's procedures.
The majority of the students were escorted by teachers, faculty and staff from the school property to the neighboring Heartland Baptist Church, 4500 Humbert Road. Other students were taken by bus to the church grounds, following normal procedures.
