City demolishes problem properties

ALTON - Adjoining structures on the city's Top 10 problem properties list have been taken down, leaving seven on the roster - temporarily.

"It's great news," City Attorney Allan Napp said. "I'm very excited about the list."

Soon, there will be three more properties added to the tally to keep it at 10.

The Alton Public Works Department leveled 1005-07 Alby St., via court order, because of its derelict condition, Napp said. The city had tried to buy the property, which was in foreclosure, but did not finalize a sales agreement.
