Illini track and field goes international

Although track and field doesn't grab the headlines in the United States, the sport is popular internationally. That catches the eyes of American coaches, including those at Illinois.

Boasting former standouts such as Perdita Felicien and Herb McKenley, the Illinois track and field program has a strong history with international athletes. With four international athletes on the men's team and 11 on the women's roster, strong worldwide ties remain today.


Illinois men's head coach Wayne Angel faces difficulty recruiting kids from the United States because many prefer the warmer climates offered by schools down south or out west. Therefore, Angel looks internationally.
