Edwardsville Tiger senior Tito Rivera took advantage of his opportunity in the lineup Tuesday at Arthur Fletcher Field in Collinsville to help lead EHS past the Collinsville Kahoks 11-6.
Rivera, a senior platoon outfielder seeing time sparingly at the plate, mostly working in defensive situations and as a pinch runner, went 3 for 4 with a double, two RBIs, two runs scored and three stolen bases in the Tigers' 20th win of the season. It was the Tigers 30th straight 20-win season, as they improved to 20-1 and 8-1 in the Southwestern Conference. The Kahoks fell to 6-16 and 2-7 in the SWC.
"It's been a struggle the beginning part of the year," said Rivera, who was 5 for 20 in 2009 coming into the game. "The last couple weeks I've been really working hard and I'm feeling a lot more comfortable at the plate and that allowed me to be successful today. After the Lincoln Tournament, coach and I had a talk and I'm seeing the ball a lot better now. I'm thankful for coach's help and I'm just trying to keep plugging away."
