EVANSTON, Ill.(KMOV)- Illinois' men's basketball team led for two seconds against in-state rival Northwestern. However, it was the game's most important two seconds: the final ones.
Trailing 59-58, the Illini got the ball and Trent Meacham found Demetri McCamey who banked the game winning shot in with two second left and the Fighting Illini (20-5, 8-4 Big Ten) stole a Big Ten Conference game with a 60-59 win over the Wildcats (13-9, 4-7) at Welsh-Ryan Arena before 8,117 fans.
McCamey finished the game with 21 points, six rebounds and five assists in 38 minutes. Meacham added 15 points. Mike Davis and Mike Tisdale both tallied 10 points for Illinois.
The Wildcats scored the game's first six points and led 10-2 before the Illini tied the game at 20-all. With 6:22 remaining in the second half, Northwestern led 55-41 before Illinois went on a 19-8 run.
For Northwestern, Luka Mirkovic recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Kevin Coble scored 14 points.
Illinois heads to Indian to play the Hoosiers on Feb. 15 and return to the Assembly Hall on Feb. 18 against Penn State.
