(KMOV) -- Emergency crews were called to the scene of a gas line break near Richmond Heights.
According to Linda Wilson with MoDOT, a crew from Gateway Constructors hit an 8 inch gas line at the southeast corner Highway 40 and Hanley.
It happened around 8:00 a.m. on Monday.
Highway 40/I-64 was closed at Eager and Hanley. It has since been reopened.
Metrolink had to temporarily stop trains from going through that area. Passengers had to be put on Metro buses to continue their commutes.
Officials say that the gas line rupture happened while constructions workers were excavating in the area. They struck a pipe that they thought was much deeper than it actually was.
It took several hours for the gas leak to be capped.
