(KMOV) -- The Martin Luther King Bridge has reopened after an inspection that lasted almost all day Wednesday.
Illinois Department of Transportation officials called this "a much-needed inspection."
The closures were necessary for the inspectors to check the structural soundness of the bridge as well as getting an overall look at the bridge.
Recently, there has been a call for bridges across the country to be inspected regularly. Especially since the I-35 Bridge collapse into Minneapolis, MN which killed 13 and wounded 145 people in 2007.
